For the past three years, Dove Bank have been lucky enough to be become part of a cluster of schools who are working with the Royal Shakespeare Company on a three year project in which the children study a number of Shakespeare’s plays, watch live performances of some of the plays and have the opportunity to perform them.
Last year the focus of the work was around A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In January the whole school completed a two week project based around the play which culminated in a sharing event where parents had the opportunity to see every class perform a section of the play and also look at some of the work the children had produced. In addition to this a group of children formed an after school club and were lucky enough to go to the New Vic Theatre to perform a scene from the play along with other schools in the cluster. Following on from this in July 2016, two of our children got the opportunity to perform at The Swan Theatre in Stratford.
This year we have become part of the Associate Schools Programme and in January the whole school studied The Tempest for two weeks resulting in a whole school sharing event for parents.
